The themes this year are Mental Health for All and Get Loud for Mental Health.
Approximately seven million Canadians – 20 percent of us – live with mental health problems, mental illness or addiction. Too often it’s kept hidden because of the associated stigma and discrimination. That needs to stop. Talking is the first step. During Mental Health Week we want Canadians to #GETLOUD.

MAY 1 – #GETLOUD through proclamations! Join the province, cities and towns throughout PEI and proclaim May 1-7 Mental Health Week. Take it a step further and light up your business and/or house in green lights. Share your proclamations and pics on social media. Don’t forget to tag us and use #GETLOUD.
MAY 2 – #GETLOUD through actions! Join us and the Random Acts of Kindness volunteers and do something nice for someone else. Share your random acts of kindness on social media. Don’t forget to tag us and use the hashtag #CMHAPEIKindness.
MAY 3 – #GETLOUD through conversation! Get social the old fashioned way by breaking bread, sitting down and having a conversation about mental health. We’re hosting three public BBQ’s that day, a couple of walks and a “conversation couch”. Click the icon to the left to learn more. Share your mental health tips on social media. MAY 4 – #GETLOUD through comedy!
We can all use some more laughter in our lives. Make a point to laugh today. You know what makes you laugh, so seek it out, or you can join us at Harmony House in Hunter River at 7:00 p.m. to listen to Patrick Ledwell talk about life, your work and being well. MAY 5 – #GETLOUD through creativity! Art (music, painting, sculpture, dance etc…) can feed the soul and mend the mind. We’re encouraging people to get out and create. We’d love to see what you come up with and learn about what inspired it. Share your art through social media. Don’t forget to tag us and use hashtags #GETLOUD and #Create4MH.
MAY 6 – #GETLOUD through movement! Physical activity can improve your mood and mental well-being so why not get out and move today? Walk, jog, run, bike, hike, horseback ride, do yoga, go to spin. MAY 7 – #GETLOUD through sharing. We’re going to do what we do every Sunday. We’re sharing people’s stories on Facebook and Twitter. Stories about individual mental health journeys and paths to recovery in anticipation that those who see them will feel a connection and above all – HOPE. We’d love to hear your story.
