This year’s Mental Health Week is May 7-13, 2018.
Approximately seven million Canadians – 20 percent of us – live with mental health problems, mental illness or addiction. Too often it’s kept hidden because of the associated stigma and discrimination. That needs to stop. Talking is the first step. During Mental Health Week we want Canadians to #GETLOUD.
On PEI we plan to #GETLOUD every day of the week. Here’s an example of what we did last year. We plan to adopt the same themes each day of the week for 2018.
We’re always actively seeking individuals and groups who are interested and able to help us with activities throughout the week. In the past we’ve had gyms and yoga studios host classes or open houses for free or by donation to CMHA-PEI on Saturdays as the theme is “move”. We’ve had local businesses and government buildings light up green on Monday and artists (visual and performing) host free or by donation events on Friday. Comedian Patrick Ledwell hosted an event on Thursday – the day we encourage people to laugh.
