CMHA’s Family Program
When an individual has a mental health concern, their entire family is affected. The CMHA’s Family Program exists to provide education, support, and skills to loved ones of individuals with a mental illness. Through an eight-week course (two hours a week), loved ones learn about mental health and mental illness, practice skills for good communication and problem solving, and receive support as they encourage their family member through recovery. The program was designed in 2017 by CMHA staff, family members, and community stakeholders and is presented by trained peer facilitators who are themselves family members of someone with a mental illness.
The next eight-week course will begin
