Notre Dame Place Clubhouse

Notre Dame Place is a clubhouse where individuals with mental or emotional illness can become members. It provides an environment of support and encouragement that enables its membership to strive towards more meaningful and satisfying lives. It is a place of opportunity, and of hope. Like people everywhere, those with mental illness need to feel they are part of a community that values and respects them, and provides them with opportunities to make a contribution. As members of the clubhouse, individuals are encouraged to develop their strengths and talents. This can lead them to greater participation as valuable members of a community, both within the doors of Notre Dame Place and beyond in the broader community

Work Works

The clubhouse provides a work-ordered day program where members and staff can work together on all activities. Each member contributes according to their abilities and talents. The tasks are based on personal choice and interest. Employment opportunities and support are available to assist members to enter or re-enter the workforce.

Work-Ordered Day

  • Clerical work provides an opportunity to experience work projects that include reception, cashier, photocopying, postage, clerical duties and the production of the clubhouse newsletter.
  • Meal preparation encourages the sharing of skills in cooking, budgeting, shopping and proper nutrition. Lunches are prepared and served in the clubhouse facility. A canteen operates throughout the day.
  • Horticultural and maintenance provides for the care of the building, ground maintenance, gardening, and plant care for the clubhouse.
  • Housekeeping maintains the building and reflects the pride each person takes to ensure a clean and inviting environment.
  • Administration provides opportunities for members to be involved in the Management Committee, the hiring of staff, and the provision of orientation and tours for new members, staff and visitors.


  • Employment supports offer assistance for members in opening employment doors through three programs: Transitional Employment, Supported Employment and Independent Employment. These programs assess job readiness and work skills, provide counseling, training, and support, while providing employment opportunities.
  • Educational support is available to members to encourage participation in educational programs that include: one-to-one tutors for literacy, access to training and education in the community, development of basic computer skills.


  • Offers 10 affordable, furnished apartments, including two wheelchair accessible apartments.
  • Offers 3 community-based, subsidized apartments for individuals, couples or families.
  • Offers 7 individual, supported, apartments with part time staff to help tenants develop skills for more independent living.


  • Offered Thursday evening 4:15 – 7:30 pm to provide social activities
  • Offered each Saturday and stat holidays 1:00 – 3:00 pm for drop-in and socializing
  • Offered the first Tuesday of each month 4:15 – 6:30 pm for the Employment/Education dinner
