World Suicide Prevention Day Event to be Held in New Location in Rustico

World Suicide Prevention Day Event to be Held in New Location in Rustico 

Canadian Mental Health Association, PEI Division and Lennon Recovery House  

will co-host a community event on September 10th 

Charlottetown—September 10th is World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) in Canada and around the world. It is a day of coming together to offer comfort and support to those impacted by suicide, as well as to share some of the important efforts that can help create suicide-safer communities.  

On PEI, A WSPD Community Event will be co-hosted by the Canadian Mental Health Association PEI Division (CMHA) and Lennon Recovery House on Tuesday, September 10th from 6:00pm to 7:00pm in the Gardens of Hope at Lennon Recovery House in Rustico.  

The evening will include music, fellowship, hope and healing and is open to all members of the public. The organizing committee is pleased to welcome special guest, The Honorable Senator Brian Francis. The event will also feature guest performances by Scott Parsons and friends. 

Committee member, Wendy Francis, who lost her brother to depression and suicide just over twenty years ago, says, “We are honored to have Senator Francis joining us to bring greetings, as well as words of wisdom, on this special day of hope and healing.” 

She goes on to say, “We encourage the public to recognize World Suicide Prevention Day in a way that works for them. It may be by attending a community event, wearing a WSPD ribbon, lighting a candle or reaching out to someone who has been impacted by suicide. These actions shed a light on this very real issue.” 

WSPD ribbons, tea lights and resource information about mental health and suicide prevention will be available and there will be a sharing table set up for attendees who wish to display a photo or memento of a loved one who died by suicide. Light refreshments will be served and lawn chairs welcome. In the event of inclement weather, the gathering will be moved indoors at the same location.
