BACKGROUND
Red Nose Talent Show
The event’s producer, Kate Flanagan says that the idea to host this fundraiser was inspired by a dear friend who passed away in 2017. “This event is organized in memory of Lisa Carragher. Lisa was an educator who often used a red clown nose to incorporate humour into her lessons with my son Jack. She loved children and music, so it seemed fitting to create an event in her memory that encompassed both and incorporated a fundraising component for a cause near and dear to her heart – mental health”.
This is the second year for this event. The evening is hosted by master of ceremonies, Al Douglas and is judged by a panel of three local celebrities. In addition to ticket sales, money is raised through an online silent auction, a 50/50 raffle and the sale of programs and red clown noses. Last year this event raised $10,000 for mental health programs and services for Islanders.
Holland College
A wide variety of programs, small class sizes, and plenty of hands-on learning: these are some of the reasons that students from all across Atlantic Canada choose to come to Prince Edward Island’s community college, Holland College. In any given year, more than a third of Holland College’s students come from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland.
The college offers more than 70 credentials in a wide variety of areas including culinary, policing, marine training, applied sciences and engineering technology, trades and industrial technology, health and community services, communications and media studies, computer studies, business studies, sport and leisure studies, performing arts, and tourism in 12 campuses and centres across the province.
The Holland College School of Performing Arts (SoPA), a partnership with Confederation Centre of the Arts, provides a post-secondary opportunity for students to develop their artistic skills, share their passion for music, theatre, and dance; explore career options in the performing arts; and gain an understanding of the business side of the performance industry.
In its four program offerings, Dance Performance, Music Performance, Theatre Performance and Performing Arts Foundation, SoPA offers students the unique opportunity to:
