Summerside Spring Gala
YOU’RE INVITED TO CMHA PEI’s 6th Annual Summerside Spring Gala, proudly presented by our Signature Sponsors, Prince Edward Aqua Farms.
Join us, Friday, April 28th at 7 PM at the Veteran’s Convention Centre (VCC) Credit Union Place, Summerside, PE. This year’s event will be hosted by Comedian and Mental Health Advocate Patrick Ledwell, and feature performances from Island musician, Dennis Ellsworth accompanied by, Dan Currie. Our guest speaker for the evening will be, Meaghan Grant, one of CMHA PEI’s Peer Support Workers. She will share her personal journey of mental health and addictions, how she found recovery and now uses her lived experience to help others through the Peer Support Program. The event also features a catered dinner from Five Eleven West Restaurant in Summerside and an on-site silent auction!

Patrick’s quick-witted comedy has brought him national recognition with multiple appearances on CBC Radio’s “The Debaters”. He’s a popular host and comedian at events across Canada, and an accomplished author, with his first book “I Am an Islander” becoming a Canadian bestseller. During the summer he performs with Mark Haines in the hit PEI show “The Island Summer Review”. Patrick is a long-time supporter of CMHA-PEI volunteering his time to host various annual events including Women and Wellness, and now Moo Let’s Talk. Patrick lives on a hobby farm outside Charlottetown, PEI with his wife Tara and son Nate.
Meaghan is a Peer Support Worker at Canadian Mental Health Association PEI Division.
Meaghan will share her story of battling addiction, mental illness, and surviving a series of traumatic events, and how she found recovery through the love and support of her family and community and turned her life around. She is passionate about sharing her journey with others in hopes it will inspire them to heal and begin the recovery process themselves and to never ever give up.
Meaghan graduated from the Specialized Peer Support Worker Training Program in the Fall of 2021. The program equips individuals to use their personal stories of mental illness, addiction, and recovery to support those who might be struggling. Meaghan uses her story and personal journey to now guide, inspire and support others in their journies to recovery through the Peer Support Program.
Dennis is a songwriter, performer, sideman, and record producer from Charlottetown, PE. His songwriting career started in high school, filling notebooks with lyrics and poems. He grew up on the Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Ray Charles, Kris Kristofferson, Roy Orbison, Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard. His tastes evolved in grade 6 and he began collecting cassettes. His personal music collection is stylistically expansive. Some might call his love for music an addiction, but whatever.
Over the years he has collaborated with Josh Finlayson and Andy Maize from Skydiggers, Gord Downie from The Tragically Hip, Joel Plaskett, Donovan Woods, Rose Cousins, John Smith, and David Barbe (producer of Drive-by Truckers and bass player for 90’s alt rock band Sugar.)
In 2015 Dennis signed a publishing deal with Cymba Music Publishing in Toronto and has since written songs in a wide variety of styles. His music has appeared in television shows for CBC, Netflix, HBO and was featured in the award-winning film, The New Romantic.
Ellsworth has released 2 full length albums with his previous group, Haunted Hearts, an album as a duo with Kinley Dowling, an album with his band The Moneygoround, two EP’s and 10 full length solo albums, including his most recent triple album project called Bound by Love, and he’s got new music ready to come out in 2023.
